The game Signalis comes to life with the help of the rose engine and it is a basic classically inspired, pure, honest horror survival game with no filler content, that delivers a unique sci fi artistic style of horror and emotional driven storytelling experience that is packaged with Japanese, German, sexy yet befitting art style.

Silent Hill Meets Ghost In The Shell - Signalis Review Survival Horror Game
Gamers on all platforms , including Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S consoles, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 alongside those on the Nintendo Switch and PC can access it now, and soon in February of 2023, in physical form. It is also available in Xbox Game Pass.

Gameplay
Signalis is a simple game that is reminiscence of the original classic survival games like silent hill and resident evil. It is a top down view, pixel, art, survival shooter that has minor melee abilities with an inventory of just six items to navigate the world.

It is a sci fi only single-player narrative that brings the tension home with a variety of melee weapons that force the battle to be played out at a weapons length like pistols and shotguns.

Game worlds are made up of interconnected spaces where you can search and find keys or items which aid in solving puzzles by joining items into safe spaces that let you carry the tools you need in order to survive.

You will encounter enemies who are pushed when you don't have ammo in the pistols, or shotguns you encounter throughout the game world as you attempt to make sense of the reason and purpose behind doing what you're doing in this enigmatic world.

The game starts off simple and easy, but you'll find that the difficulty rises dramatically when the gameplay progresses, at times, to the point of exhaustion with enemies that revive and emerge from vents and floors, plus simple, easy, yet thrilling boss fights in a claustrophobic environment.

I'd suggest that it's not your fault per say however, if you advance in the game significantly, let's say 2 or 3 hours in and then stop for a couple of days, coming back isn't easy because the game does not spoonfeed you what you were supposed to do next and due to the map being a little hard to understand new players might be thrown off initially, but use guidelines and stretch your brain muscles trust me, the pain is worth it.

The version of the enemy is a bit limited for my liking however, it was created by two individuals, and I am able to accept it since what's available is mostly straightforward, classic and effective survival horror enemy game design.

Story
The story is set in a dystopian world, and is presented in a way that makes you think and ponder the ending and the meaning behind the story, not just complete the game, and be explained what the story is about. It is your job to think about it.

Silent Hill Meets Ghost In The Shell - Signalis Review Survival Horror Game
I personally found the story telling mechanics of female workers and male and female representation by the machines of a communist style work environment interesting.

I'm not going into the details in order to keep from spoilers, so let me just say that it is not an easy tale to comprehend, https://diigo.com/0rdifg and you are left to discern, in my opinion the meaning of the story, for it is not based on logic and reality as such.

Graphics/Performance
For the graphics and performance of Signalis the game I won't be doing a deep analysis since it runs well and it looks good for its unique art style. It is incredibly fast and smooth on every device you can play it on, and I truly hope it is brought to mobile devices like iPhone and Android soon.

I highly recommend playing it on an OLED TV or Monitor as it looks beautiful.

Sound
When it comes to audio, take a listen:

For being done mostly by two people, I think it's sound production is quite simple, yet really effective at delivering claustrophobic adrenaline rush moments but with a calmness to makes the entire experience an adrenaline-pumping rollercoaster of horror emotions.

Achievements/Fan Service
On the achievements side, the game is actually easy to get all the achievements and according to trueachievements.com, you can get them all with an 8 to 10 hours. You can even finish it faster if you are looking to speed-run it.

On the fan service side to things , the anime Japanese inspired characters have cute, gorgeous, big eyes, and the feminine image is depicted in the art style and is aesthetically pleasing and satisfying. So I give it a thumbs up man of the culture. If you think it's not enough, I'm gonna have to suggest that you play with grass now. Pause the video and go.

Conclusion Review Silent Hill Meets Ghost In The Shell Signalis survival horror game review
To conclude, I will affirm that this is among those survival horror titles that go down in history as a simple but really top-quality Indie developer. The game is a success story that I think every fan of survival horror. Particularly, the classical style Evil, resident, as well as Silent Hill titles needs to try it out and experience.

I don't play all of my single-player games completely, so I won't working towards the additional endings, but I'm happy and proud to have had the opportunity to experience this unique journey into madness from the publisher of the rose engine.
